Problems we fix: SSL certificate
“Your connection is not private.” We fix the SSL today and set it to renew itself.
An expired or misconfigured SSL certificate puts a full-page warning in front of every visitor and most of them leave. The fix is usually under an hour. The part that matters is making sure it never expires again.
How it shows up
The six SSL problems we see every week.
Any of these means visitors are seeing a warning instead of your website. Send the address and we check it in minutes.
Certificate expired
The certificate had a 90 day or one year term, nobody renewed it, and Chrome now shows a red warning. Common on sites where the auto-renewal silently failed.
“Not secure” in the address bar
The site has no certificate at all, or it has one but still loads over http. Google marks it and ranks it lower.
Mixed content warnings
The certificate is fine but images, scripts or fonts still load over http, so the padlock is broken on some pages. Needs a careful search and replace, not a plugin guess.
Wrong domain on the certificate
The certificate covers example.com but not www.example.com, or the host’s default certificate is being served. Visitors on one version get the warning.
AutoSSL or Let’s Encrypt failing
Renewal fails because DNS changed, a redirect blocks validation or the site moved servers. The error sits in a log nobody reads until the certificate lapses.
Redirect loops after forcing https
A plugin or .htaccess rule forces https in a loop and the site will not load at all. Common right after a migration or a new certificate.
What we do
SSL fixed, mixed content cleaned, renewal automated.
- Certificate renewed or replaced the same day, from your host’s AutoSSL, Let’s Encrypt or a purchased certificate
- Correct coverage for the bare domain and www, with one canonical version and a clean redirect
- Mixed content found and fixed in the database, theme and plugins so every page shows the padlock
- Redirect loops and forced-https plugin conflicts untangled
- Auto-renewal set up and tested, with monitoring that alerts us 14 days before any expiry
- Email and DNS checked so validation keeps working after future changes
- Google Search Console updated to the https version
- Written summary of what was wrong and what we changed
What it costs
Existing SpeedSolid clients: this is included in every plan. Open a ticket or call and site-down issues move to the front of the queue.
Not a client yet: most SSL fixes take about an hour. Work is billed at $150 per hour and we quote before we start. Move the site onto a Core plan from $99.99 per month and the monitoring that catches the next one is included.
SSL certificates on SpeedSolid plans are a $99.99 per year add-on and renewal is handled for you, so this page stops applying to you.
How we compare
Why not a freelancer, your host’s support chat or ignoring it?
Each of these can get the padlock back today. The question is who notices when it lapses again in 90 days.
| What matters | SpeedSolid | A freelancer | Big-box host | Doing nothing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Who answers when the site is down | One team that knows your site, phone and tickets 24/7/365, site-down handled first | Whoever built it, if they still reply | A chat queue that does not know your website | Nobody, until a customer tells you |
| Updates and security patches | Monthly updates, urgent fixes right away, malware monitoring and cleanup | When you remember to ask | Server only. Your WordPress, plugins and forms are on you | Never, until the site is hacked |
| Contact form delivery | Authenticated email, a test submission every day | Set up once, never checked again | Not their problem | Leads silently go to spam |
| Backups | Monthly full backup plus a copy before every update round, restore for $50 | Maybe | Often a paid add-on, restore on you | None |
| Accessibility and cookie tools | Included on Core Plus and Core Pro, with a statement page and consent banner | Extra project | Not offered | Exposed to demand letters |
| Price | From $99.99 a month, no contract | $75 to $150 an hour, unpredictable | $30 to $60 a month plus every fix at your cost | Free, until it is not |

Hour 1: fix
Certificate renewed or issued, domain coverage corrected, redirects cleaned, mixed content replaced, site tested on desktop and phone in every major browser.
Same day: prevent
Auto-renewal configured and tested, expiry monitoring added, and a note in your file on where the certificate lives and when it renews.
What your site runs on
Enterprise infrastructure, with a human team in front of it.
SpeedSolid runs on enterprise cloud infrastructure that is audited and monitored around the clock, and we pass those commitments down to your website. What that infrastructure does not include is someone who knows your site and answers the phone. That part is us.
Audited data centers
Independently audited for SOC 1, SOC 2 and SOC 3, ISO 27001 and PCI DSS Level 1, with HIPAA-eligible infrastructure available on Core Pro private servers.
Published uptime commitments
Core Pro private cloud and managed WordPress servers carry a 99.99% commitment, shared hosting 99.9%, with a 24/7/365 network operations center behind all three.
East and West Coast servers
Northern California, Los Angeles and Ashburn, Virginia, with an Amsterdam option for European traffic. Your site sits closest to your customers.
Uptime commitments and certifications apply to the underlying infrastructure. SpeedSolid plan commitments are listed on the pricing page.
FAQ
Questions we get asked
How fast can you fix an expired SSL certificate?
Usually within an hour of getting access to the hosting account. Purchased certificates that need reissuing from the vendor can take longer, and we will tell you up front.
Why did my SSL expire if it was supposed to auto-renew?
The common causes are a DNS change, a redirect that blocks the validation check, a moved server or an expired card at the certificate vendor. We find the cause so it does not repeat.
Is a free Let’s Encrypt certificate good enough?
For most small business sites, yes. It provides the same encryption as paid certificates. Paid certificates add warranty and validation levels some industries want. We set up whichever fits.
Does an SSL warning hurt my Google ranking?
Yes. Google uses https as a ranking signal and marks http pages as not secure. A lapse of a few days is recoverable, a site left on http is not competing.
Do you work with sites outside California?
Yes. SpeedSolid is headquartered in California with teams and clients in Texas, New York, Florida and Hawaii. Servers sit in multiple US regions and support runs in US business hours, so a site anywhere in the country gets the same service.
My site is not on WordPress. Can you still help?
Usually yes. SSL, DNS and email problems are the same on every platform. For Wix, Squarespace and Shopify we can fix the DNS and email side and advise on the rest.
What does ongoing service cost?
Core is $99.99 per month, Core Plus is $149.99 per month and Core Pro starts at $299.99 per month, month to month. Pay annually and save 10 percent. Moving an existing site to SpeedSolid is free.
