Problems we fix: Lost backups and site recovery
No backup, or a backup that will not restore? We recover what exists and make sure it never happens again.
A backup you have never restored is a hope, not a plan. When the site is gone, the host closed the account or the backup file turns out to be empty, there is usually more to recover than people expect. Then we set up backups that are tested, stored off the server and restorable in an hour.
How it shows up
The six backup disasters we get called about.
Stop everything on the server before anything is overwritten. The sooner we look, the more we can recover.
Host suspended or closed the account
Unpaid invoice, policy violation or a company that shut down. The files may still exist for a window of days. We move fast to get a copy.
Backup plugin ran for years, never restored
The restore fails, the archive is empty or missing the database. Usually the plugin ran out of disk space or was never configured to include everything.
Site deleted by mistake
A developer, a cleanup script or a wrong click in cPanel. Server-level snapshots and host backups often still have it.
Backups stored on the same server that died
When the server fails, the backups go with it. A backup is only a backup when it lives somewhere else.
Hacked, and the only backups are infected
Every backup is from after the infection. We clean the newest one rather than restore the hack.
Database gone, files intact
Content, orders and settings live in the database. Files alone give you a theme with nothing in it. We look everywhere the database might still exist.
What we do
Recovery first, then backups you can trust.
- Every possible source checked: host snapshots, cPanel backups, plugin archives, staging copies, email attachments, the Wayback Machine and Google’s cache
- Database and files reassembled from whatever exists and the site rebuilt on SpeedSolid hosting
- Content recovered from cached and archived copies where no backup exists at all
- Test restore performed so you see the recovered site before it goes live
- Monthly backups plus a copy before every update, stored off the server
- Daily server snapshots on Core Pro
- Restore tested periodically so it works when it matters, restore on request for $50
- Written summary of what was recovered and from where
What it costs
Existing SpeedSolid clients: this is included in every plan. Open a ticket or call and site-down issues move to the front of the queue.
Not a client yet: recovery is quoted after we see what exists; most recoveries take two to six hours. Work is billed at $150 per hour and we quote before we start. Move the site onto a Core plan from $99.99 per month and the monitoring that catches the next one is included.
On a SpeedSolid plan, monthly backups and a pre-update copy are included, stored off the server, with a restore for $50 whenever you need one.
How we compare
Why not a freelancer, your host’s backups or hoping it never happens?
Each covers part of the problem. The gap is usually that nobody ever tested a restore.
| What matters | SpeedSolid | A freelancer | Big-box host | Doing nothing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Who answers when the site is down | One team that knows your site, phone and tickets 24/7/365, site-down handled first | Whoever built it, if they still reply | A chat queue that does not know your website | Nobody, until a customer tells you |
| Updates and security patches | Monthly updates, urgent fixes right away, malware monitoring and cleanup | When you remember to ask | Server only. Your WordPress, plugins and forms are on you | Never, until the site is hacked |
| Contact form delivery | Authenticated email, a test submission every day | Set up once, never checked again | Not their problem | Leads silently go to spam |
| Backups | Monthly full backup plus a copy before every update round, restore for $50 | Maybe | Often a paid add-on, restore on you | None |
| Accessibility and cookie tools | Included on Core Plus and Core Pro, with a statement page and consent banner | Extra project | Not offered | Exposed to demand letters |
| Price | From $99.99 a month, no contract | $75 to $150 an hour, unpredictable | $30 to $60 a month plus every fix at your cost | Free, until it is not |
Your first 30 days
What happens in the first day.
Recovery is time sensitive, so we start the same day. Headquartered in California with teams and clients in Texas, New York, Florida and Hawaii, servers in multiple US regions, support in US business hours.
Hour 1 to 4: locate
We freeze the server, then check every place a copy might exist, from host snapshots to archived pages, and tell you what is recoverable.
Day 1: recover
Files and database reassembled, the site rebuilt on SpeedSolid hosting and shown to you on a test address before it replaces anything.
Day 2 onward: protect
Monthly off-server backups and pre-update copies, daily snapshots on Core Pro, and a tested restore so this is the last time.
What your site runs on
Enterprise infrastructure, with a human team in front of it.
SpeedSolid runs on enterprise cloud infrastructure that is audited and monitored around the clock, and we pass those commitments down to your website. What that infrastructure does not include is someone who knows your site and answers the phone. That part is us.
Audited data centers
Independently audited for SOC 1, SOC 2 and SOC 3, ISO 27001 and PCI DSS Level 1, with HIPAA-eligible infrastructure available on Core Pro private servers.
Published uptime commitments
Core Pro private cloud and managed WordPress servers carry a 99.99% commitment, shared hosting 99.9%, with a 24/7/365 network operations center behind all three.
East and West Coast servers
Northern California, Los Angeles and Ashburn, Virginia, with an Amsterdam option for European traffic. Your site sits closest to your customers.
Uptime commitments and certifications apply to the underlying infrastructure. SpeedSolid plan commitments are listed on the pricing page.
FAQ
Questions we get asked
My host says the files are gone. Is it really over?
Not necessarily. Hosts keep snapshots longer than they advertise, backup plugins leave archives in odd places, and cached and archived copies of pages can rebuild content. We check all of it before anyone says it is over.
Can you recover a site from the Wayback Machine?
Partly. Archived pages give us the text, structure and often the images, which we rebuild into a working WordPress site. Form entries, orders and anything behind a login are not archived.
How often should a small business website be backed up?
At least monthly, plus a copy before every update, stored somewhere other than the website server. Stores and busy sites should have daily snapshots. That is what SpeedSolid plans include.
How do I know my backups will actually restore?
You test one. We do a test restore periodically on every plan and a full restore on request for $50.
Do you work with sites outside California?
Yes. SpeedSolid is headquartered in California with teams and clients in Texas, New York, Florida and Hawaii. Servers sit in multiple US regions and support runs in US business hours, so a site anywhere in the country gets the same service.
My site is not on WordPress. Can you still help?
Usually yes. SSL, DNS and email problems are the same on every platform. For Wix, Squarespace and Shopify we can fix the DNS and email side and advise on the rest.
What does ongoing service cost?
Core is $99.99 per month, Core Plus is $149.99 per month and Core Pro starts at $299.99 per month, month to month. Pay annually and save 10 percent. Moving an existing site to SpeedSolid is free.
